Howard Stutz

Gaming Reporter/Columnist

Las Vegas Review-Journal

Howard Stutz has spent more than 30 years in Las Vegas as an award-winning journalist and communications professional. He has worked for the Las Vegas Review-Journal since 2004.

Howard covers the casino gaming industry from a local, statewide, national and international perspective. He writes the twice-a-week “Inside Gaming” column for the Review-Journal.

Howard has covered gaming industry issues in Atlantic City and emerging markets, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. In 2005, he reported on the impact Gulf Coast hurricanes had on the gaming industry in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Howard has also traveled to Macau, China to report on the gaming industry growth in Southeast Asia.

He covered the gaming industry for the Review-Journal from 1987 to 1991 before embarking a 13-year career in public relations and corporate communications.

Howard majored in journalism at San Diego State University. He and his wife are parents of a daughter.

Tailgate: The Club's annual tailgate will be November 7 as UNLV hosts Hawai'i. We will be sharing the space with the Las Vegas West Rotary Club. Sign-up can be found in the book.

Holiday Party: The Club Holiday Party will be at Eric Colvin's house the night of December 3. A sign-up will be placed in the book.

Italian American Club Party: Joanne Blystone announced that their will be a party Thursday, November 5 at the Italian American Club on East Sahara. All Rotary members welcome.


I like these pills . . . Hank Falstad handed around a brochure for a pill he was impressed with which was made out of seaweed. He was asked about what was significant about October 27, 1965, Hank was unable to answer that was the date LV Southwest Rotary was established. He was recognized $150.

It is all about the ladies . . . Bryan Dziedziak was shown a picture of he and his wife at a Women of Nevada event and then we went on to describe the Club's Foundation. He was recognized $75.

Birthday Girl & Boy . . . Adrienne Cox was recognized $50 for her birthday in which she was just driving in a convertible and Josh was recognized $50 for his birthday where he was just planning to have dinner with wife, kids and friends.

Birthday Boy Jeopardy . . . Josh was then asked who was A) from Texas, B) Was always a geek, C) Loves Pride & Prejudice, and D) wished they were good a relaxing. After three guesses, Josh got it correct, Rebecca Collett.

Gifts for the President:

Tom Martin gave a party tray and Rebecca Collett gave a Halloween mask to Mitchell Horst.

Guest Speaker:

Scott Johnson, President of Las Vegas Firefighters

Scott Johnson spoke to the Club about fire safety, the state of the department and various other topic related related to the fire department and union.
