Las Vegas Southwest Rotary Newsletter

February 29, 2016

It is with great sadness that Andy Katz, one of our longest-standing, active, loyal members, recently passed. He will always be remembered for his caring and kind nature, warm personality, love for all things UNLV Rebels and 24/7 smile. Our wishes are with his friends and family. His light was extinguished far too early. Andy was laid to rest Friday, February 26th. His passing was reported in the Las Vegas Review-Journal in addition to his printed obituary. Rest in Peace.

Hensel Ethics Essay Contest is designed to challenge high school students to analyze ethical issues and concerns confronting them in today's complex world. Because our fellow Rotarian, businessman, and philanthropist, George R. Hensel, Ph.D., privately funds this contest, there are no entry fees to pay. Students submit essays to their local Rotary Clubs and may, at the club's discretion, present their essays at a club meeting. Winners at the club level advance to the District Level and four winners at that level are awarded monetary prizes. The top three runners up are awarded cash prizes of $500 and the winner at the District Level receives $3,000. The overall winning essay is presented at the District Conference. Click here for more information.
PAY YOUR BILL! It's really easy!  Reminder: It is your duty to keep up to date on invoices and up-to-date bills will be sent to all members. The Club recently instituted on-site credit card payment so any member can pay their bill at any meeting. If you don’t know how much you owe, just ask Elaine (she’s keeping a list and checking it twice).

February 29 Program

Sig Rogich, political and communications consultant

Sig Rogich gave his perspective on the 2016 presidential election where he made not bone about telling the Club that in his expert opinion Trump, Cruz and Rubio could not win in November and went as far as to say Trump would destroy the party if he received the nomination and that Ohio Governor Kasich was the only person with any real path to the presidency (of which I, Clinton Pope, completely agree). He spoke to his displeasure with the existing administration and said that this election was probably the most important in a generation.
