Rossi Ralenkotter, President and CEO, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority

As President/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Rossi Ralenkotter is responsible for marketing and branding Las Vegas and Southern Nevada as the world’s most desirable destination for leisure and business travel. Under Mr. Ralenkotter’s leadership, the LVCVA launched the most successful branding campaign in tourism history, which is best known for its oft-repeated tagline, “What happens here, stays here.™”  It was selected the No. 1 campaign by the voting public and was inducted into the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame in 2011. The LVCVA owns and operates the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center. With Mr. Ralenkotter’s oversight, Las Vegas remains the world’s trade show capital, hosting 54 of the largest 250 trade shows.

Feed the Homeless: Tom Martin announced to the Club Feed the Homeless will be at Christ Episcopal Church (2000 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89104) beginning at 5:00 p.m. the last Wednesday, August 31, of this month. You can sign-up in the book or contact Tom or Karl.

Andy Katz Invitational Golf Tournament: Jim Andres gave an overview of the First Annual Andy Katz Invitational Golf Tournament benefiting the Andy Katz Memorial Scholarship Fund at The UNLV Foundation. The tournament will be held at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club on October 27th. Jim indicated early-bird sign-ups will be extended till the end of the month for Rotarians. The Club will be sponsoring the tournament and will have four participants per the sponsorship. To learn more or sign-up to attend please visit

Melissa Copeland Homecoming Party: Adrienne Cox announced that Melissa Copeland is returning to Las Vegas and a few of the Rotarians are throwing her a welcome back party at Rounders in Henderson Sunday, August 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. A sign-up can be found in the book.

PAY YOUR BILL! It's really easy!  Reminder: It is your duty to keep up to date on invoices and up-to-date bills will be sent to all members. The Club recently instituted on-site credit card payment so any member can pay their bill at any meeting. If you don’t know how much you owe, just ask Elaine (she’s keeping a list and checking it twice).


Hank Falstad: Hank was complimented for his helpful advice and insight and asked how his business was going. He said he finally received his first check after years of work to get his ADA enforcement business going. He was given a Rotary key chain and a $100 recognition.

Josh Satterlee: One of Josh's clients, PGA pro golfer Ryan Moore, won the John Deere Classic the past weekend. Josh described how he became a client where he helped work on increasing his strength. He also relayed an anecdote where he refused to partake and a 3 iron club testing with three pro golfers including Ryan. He said that what Ryan can do with a golf club is unbelievable. He was recognized $100 and received a Rotary key chain.

Pins: Those who were not wearing a Rotary logo pin, shirt, tie, scarf, etc. was recognized $10.

August 15 Program

Sherm Frederick, owner and founder of Battle Born Media

Fellow Las Vegas Southwest Rotary member Sherm Frederick provided the Club his insight into the current local, regional and national newspaper landscape. He provided some history of newspapers throughout the region and provided some deep background on the Las Vegas Review-Journal and his opinions around the current sale and ownership. He also gave a brief overview of his current holdings which includes papers in Marin County and Pacifica, California and throughout rural Nevada. You can follow Sherm on Twitter at @ShermFrederick.
