MEETING PHOTOS

Announcements:

Football Squares: Eric Colvin announced the winners of the Sunday night football pool. The LV Southwest Club one the final and Brian Shoemaker won the halftime score.

Rotary Shirts: Eric Colvin also announced that Rotary shirts are being selected and showed the samples that he had brought to the meeting. Need to order by 10/1/16.

Andy Katz Memorial Golf Tournament: Eric Colvin also announced that the Andy Katz Memorial Golf Tournament will be on 10/27/16 at Rhodes Ranch with proceeds to to to UNLV scholarships as Andy was a big UNLV fan.

Greenspokes: Rebecca Collette announced that we need hosts for Greenspokes. Ron Reynolds is coordinating and please contact him. Bruce Pope was gracious enough to immediately volunteer.

Feed the Homeless: Rebecca thanked everyone who attended the Feed the Homeless on 8/31 and asked them to stand and be recognized.

Rose Parade Float: PDG Larry Skaggs announced that he is the district chairman of the Rose Bowl float committee and they are doubling the budget in honor of the 100th anniversary of RI foundation. To do our part, Rebecca presented Larry with a check from our club in the amount of $1,200.

Recognitions:

Justin Kalb has an exchange student from South Africa living with his family to help care for his triplets. He also recently had a nice piece in a magazine about his family.

Sean Tanko said he “...got nothing” but then fessed up to a marvelous trip to the east coast, including Cooperstown, Boston, and New York.

Gifts for the President

Joanne Blystone gave a gold mine gifts from up North, Karen Strawn gave a bracelet and Wally Emery gave a refrigerator magnet from his RV trip.

August 22 Program

Lu DeSylva, District Governor, Rotary District 5300

Lu DeSylva stressed membership goals including a net 2 increase for our club. He also mentioned the successful efforts to eradicate polio and this could be the year for the last case. He said they have even been talking to the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan, two areas of polio concern. He made a pitch for all of us to be Bequest Society members. Include Rotary in your will. He presented a Rotary moment about a recent trip he took to Guatemala with Rotoplast. He said when you help others, you help yourself, and that people who help others have a better sense of well-being.
